1 〔波が来る〕 roll in; wash 《the shore》; (激しく) break 《(up)on…》; dash 《against…》; beat 《(up)on…》; (ひたひたと) lap 《the sand, against the rocks》; 〔敵･群衆などが押し寄せる〕 surge; rush; press [push (one's way)] 《toward…》.

●波がひたひたと磯(_いそ)へ打ち寄せている. Waves are lapping the beach.
